Overview
Glutathione (γ-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine, GSH) is an endogenous tripeptide and the most abundant low-molecular-weight thiol inside cells. Its reactive cysteine thiol lets it cycle between reduced (GSH) and oxidised (GSSG) forms. Although small, it is a genuine peptide and is supplied as a stable lyophilized peptide.
In research glutathione is studied as the principal cellular thiol antioxidant and a key determinant of redox state, participating in detoxification and in glutathione-dependent enzyme systems. It is offered strictly as a research material, and the study cited below describes review findings only.

Thiol antioxidant and redox buffering
Through its cysteine thiol, glutathione directly scavenges reactive oxygen species and maintains the intracellular GSH:GSSG ratio that defines redox balance, making it central to antioxidant research.
